A VIGIL has been announced to take place in Chester city centre to remember Brianna Ghey.

The 16-year-old, from Birchwood, was found dead in Culcheth Linear Park in Warrington mid afternoon on Saturday, February 11. Emergency services declared that she died at the scene.

Two teenagers have since appeared in Chester Magistrates Court charged with murdering the trans girl, and were remanded in youth detention ahead of an appearance at Liverpool Crown Court today (Thursday).

A vigil has been announced to take place at the Rainbow Tea Rooms by Chester Pride, located in Bridge Street, to mark the loss of Brianna.

Organisers say: "We are joining many prides around the UK to show out solidarity and support against the murder of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey.

"All are welcome to come along for an evening led by our trans and non-binary co-ordinator Kate Hutchinson whilst enjoying some complimentary refreshments on Friday, February 17, from 7pm.

"As we are limited on numbers we have created an event so that people can tell us if they are attending in order for us to crowd control safely.

"We ask that people wear bold and bright colours of the Rainbow."

People who wish to attend are asked to confirm their attendance via the event page on Facebook. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/chesterprideuk

The charity also says if anyone has been affected by the distressing incident, there is a free 'Just Ask' helpline for support and advice. Whatsapp/Text/Call 07718 066684, or email help@chesterpride.co.uk.

Since the death of Brianna Ghey, a fundraising page set up to support her family has raised nearly £100,000 at the time of writing.

The GoFundMe page says: "We would like to help the Ghey family who has had their beautiful daughter cruelly taken from them in the most shocking and heart-breaking way.

“Brianna was an outgoing, confident girl. She brought a lot of laughter to those who knew her. She was looking forward to taking her exams this year and beginning her journey into the adult world.

“We have set up this page to help the family at this truly devastating time.

“We need your support to help them with funeral costs (we want to make this pink and colourful to match her personality) and ask if you can spare anything no matter how small to try to relieve their stress and allow them to grieve their beautiful daughter.”
