A GIRL from Ellesmere Port who has fundraised for Alder Hey and the Countess of Chester Hospital for four years, received a special birthday message from Scarlett Moffatt.

Poppy Jones’ illnesses started when she was a baby.

She had numerous bowel and gastro issues that caused her a lot of discomfort and it led to her receiving an ileostomy bag a few years ago.

Poppy also suffers from joint hypermobility in her upper body which causes her severe joint and muscle pain as well as headaches, fatigue and dizziness.

In the bottom half of her body, Poppy doesn’t have much flexibility which causes significant pain in her feet, ankles and knees.

For a number of years, Poppy has run toy appeals, gifting hundreds of toys to children in hospital at Easter and Christmas.

Sharon Jones, Poppy's mum said: "I am so proud of her in so many ways.

"She still really suffers every day and she can inspire me and probably a lot of other people to show whatever you're going through, if you put your mind to it, you can do it."

Yesterday (Wednesday, January 25) was Poppy's 10th birthday and she received a special birthday message from Gogglebox and I'm a Celebrity star, Scarlett Moffatt.

Poppy first met Scarlett when she did a Matalan pyjama campaign for Alder Hey in 2018 and they have kept in touch ever since.

32-year-old Scarlett from County Durham, is best known for appearing in the Channel 4 programme Gogglebox. She also won the sixteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2016 and has since appeared in a number of programmes, including the I'm a Celebrity companion show Extra Camp as a co-presenter, and Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Sharon Jones, Poppy's mum, said: "Poppy was made up to get the video message. She adores Scarlett lots.

"Scarlett is genuinely one of the nicest people we have ever met. Poppy calls her, her best friend."
