CHESTER has been named amongst the most romantic city break destinations in the UK.

According to new research, the city is considered the seventh most romantic city in the country in a list which also featured Bath, Edinburgh and Oxford.

With categories including the most romantic activities per kilometre, the average cost of a two-night hotel stay and the number of romantic restaurants per kilometre, Brighton claimed top spot with an overall score of 8.00 out of 10.

The seaside resort is renowned for its diverse community, vibrant music, and art scene. Brighton scored highly for its romantic restaurants with a total of 149 establishments (4.7 per km2), and also its affordability (£242 for a two-night stay).

For context, perhaps the most quintessentially romantic city, Paris, was given a score of 8.87 out of 10. York came second in the UK's most romantic cities with a score of 7.69, followed by Bath with 7.47, Cantebury with 6.95 and Edinburgh in fifth spot with 6.63.

Chester was sandwiched between Oxford (6.00 out of 10) and Manchester (5.58) with a score of 5.79 out of 10. Chester's stunning architecture and scenery, cosy pubs and restaurants and classy hotels saw it perform well despite being one of the smaller cities in the top ten.

The study found that their were 1.8 couples activities and 2.8 romantic restaurants per kilometre in Chester. The average price for a two night stay came to £310 and the search term 'romantic things to do in Chester' was used approximately 420 times over the last year.

Lincoln and Liverpool completed the top ten with scores of 5.58 and 5.47 respectively.
