A CHESTER play area will be closed 'until further notice' after the formation of a sinkhole in the playground.

Blacon Adventure Playground on Kippling Road informed residents this morning (Tuesday, December 20) that the health and safety risk would mean that the playground would be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Sinkholes are typically the result of a collapse in the ground's surface layer often due to groundwater.

In a Facebook post, Blacon Adventure Playground said: "Good morning everyone.

"Due to a sink hole on the playground we will not be able to open until further notice, as it is a health and safety risk for all visitors.

"We appreciate all your support and apologise for the inconvenience.

"We will be making up pack lunches for all of our local children in the afternoons so please feel free to come down/send the children to collect them from the farm gate. Thank you."

A much-loved community resource with its own city farm. 'The Venny' has been operating for over 40 years and is owned and managed by Avenue Services, a social enterprise based in Blacon.
