AN ART gallery in Chester has celebrated its first birthday with an event.

To mark the occasion, Art Box, in Boughton, threw a Christmas Party for the community and their artists.

Liz Dunning, the Art Box Gallery manager and curator, said: “On the night, we announced that we had chosen Platform for Life as our charity to support.

"A local community charity, Platform for Life only started in 2017 yet, since then, they have helped many families in need.

"With challenges including homelessness, debt and parenting difficulties in the Chester area, here at Art Box, we have the feeling that they have only just scratched the surface, and we endeavour to help them in any way we can.”

The evening raised £500 towards the charity and Joanne Walton, fundraising and communications manager for Platform for Life came along to support the artists and receive the much needed funds.

One of Art Box’s regular artists, Margaret Prime, designed and produced a limited edition Christmas print for the gallery’s event, with all proceeds donated to Platform for Life.

Margaret's work tells a story, often capturing a playful, nostalgic or romantic moment in time.

She said: "It brings me great joy to sketch and paint. I often completely lose track of time.

"It's fantastic to be part of the Art Box community and to be able to show my art. It means a lot to me to know some of my paintings are hanging up in people’s homes! I hope they like my paintings as much as I like to paint them.”
