Two bar staff from Chester have raised over £1,000 for a Flintshire dog rescue by running one mile every hour for over 24 hours.

Halle Kisby and Callum Macmillan, both bartenders at Alexander live in Chester, raised over £1,000 for Skylor's Animal Rescue, which is based in Dobshill.

The friends began their marathon at 3pm on Saturday, December 3 with a 3.22 mile run and then completed a one mile run every hour on the hour until 2pm on Sunday, December 4.

Halle Kisby said: "The marathon was definitely not easy and one of the most challenging thing we’ve put ourselves up against."

Callum echoed this point saying: "For me I found the hardest part of the challenge the lack of sleep however I absolutely loved every second of it."

He added: "I would have gone insane if Halle wasn't there and it's crazy how small things like friends cheering you on and random drunk people at 3am racing you down the street keep you going."

They decided to raise money for Skylor's Animal Rescue as they are both dog lovers.

The pair later visited the centre, and Halle added: "We fell in love with the dogs they had there and felt heartbroken seeing them without a home and hearing the expenses of vet bills and up-keep."

Skylor's is a small family run dog rescue that is non-profit and rescues abandoned dogs from the pound who can no longer stay with their family and ex-racing greyhounds straight from the track.

Recently, Skylor's have taken in five orphaned puppies, less than three weeks old, that are being hand-raised and fed every four hours.

The majority of the money raised in the fundraiser will be put towards vet bills at the rescue.

Halle said: "Those of us with pets know how extortionate these bills can get for one pet, let alone a shelter's worth!

"On top of this, the cost of getting dogs to the shelter safely is a massive factor for Skylor's, as they have rescued and continue to rescue retired Greyhound track runners from Ireland."

The runners were joined on their last mile by some of the rescue dogs at Skylor's rescue, ending in the garden at Alexander's Live bar.

Halle added: "We hadn’t seen the dogs or the owners of Skylors for a good few months but to have a cuddle with them after on the walk was a heartfelt moment.

"It was that realisation of ‘wow we’ve finally finished and we did it for an amazing cause for people and dogs who really deserve it’. It was so lovely to see the gratefulness and proudness that everyone had for us too."

Skylor's Animal Rescue, took to facebook to thank the pair for their fundraising efforts.
