AN award-winning Ellesmere Port salon owner has been touring Europe as part of a hairdressing masterclass.

Richard Phillipart, owner of The Boutique Atelier, has this past month been travelling across Europe for L'Oreal Professional on his hairdressing MasterClass tour to launch the latest colour technology the brand has to offer.

Richard travelled to Prague in the Czech Republic for the first leg of his tour and showcased his skills, latest styles and techniques to an audience of 500 of the Czech Republic's very best hairdressers.

He said: "Pre-lockdown I was lucky to regularly travel internationally showcasing my work to hairdressers from Canada to Dubai, but Covid put a stop to all of that.

"It has been fantastic to be back out in amongst the international hairdressing industry, meeting hairdressers and salon owners alike who are eager to soak up the latest styles and fashions to take back to their salons and reignite their business."

Richard's tour started in Prague where 500 hairdressers attended his masterclass. Richard wowed the audience with two hours of hairdressing live on stage where he cut, styled, dressed and teased hair in a presentation which culminated with a standing ovation and rapturous applause.

Richard designed and executed a total of nine hairstyles on models whose hair had been previously coloured by Richard and the Czech team of L'Oreal Pro colour technicians the day before. L'Oreal took advantage of having so many hairdressers together for the first time in the Czech Republic post-lockdown to launch their latest PETA-approved vegan colour technology.

After his triumph in the Czech Republic, Richard travelled across the border to the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava.

Here, over 200 of the country's top hairdressers and salon owners attended the second date of his tour. Richard again presented nine unique and fashion forward hairstyles.

Taking inspiration from his work backstage at fashion week and on set for magazine photoshoots, Richard showed the audience how to take these high fashion looks and dilute them for their salon clientele. Again Richard helped launch the latest colours for L'Oreal Pro and incorporated them into his two-hour masterclass event.

As the owner and creative director of The Boutique Atelier, Richard has always had a heavy focus within the salon on the education, opportunity and growth for all members of his Atelier.

With his apprenticeship program winning accolades across the industry, he spoke to his European audiences about the importance of training the next generation of hairdressers and how the ethos of sharing his knowledge forward has helped him to grow his multi-award winning Ellesmere Port salon from an original team of three to a current team of 21 employees.

The interest in Richard's masterclasses across Europe follows on from his show earlier this year when Richard was given the highest accolade a hairdresser can receive from L'Oreal Professional, when he was asked to headline the L'Oreal Colour Trophy grand final award dinner.

Richard presented to the industry his surrealist hair show "cabinet of curiosities", making him the youngest independent salon owner in the competition's 68-year history to be given this honour.

An audience of 1,900 hairdressers attend his showcase in London to marvel at the hair sculptures Richard created.

Next year looks to be just as exciting, with Richard returning from Venice where he has been to discuss a request for him to showcase his work at the largest hair and beauty trade show in the world 'Cosmoprof'.

At the five-day trade show in Bologna, over 220,000 hair and beauty industry professionals come together to discuss and share ideas about the continuous evolution of the industry and launch their latest technology and styles.

Richard will present his new 2023 showcase in a stadium which seats up to 6,000 hairdressers from across the world.

Unfortunately, Richard does not currently accept new colour or cut clients at his Ellesmere Port salon, The Boutique Atelier, but his team of award-winning hairdressers, all trained and developed by him, are available for consultations to explore new styles.
