CUSTOMERS at the Aldi in Neston are leaving shopping trolleys in front of a defibrillator forcing supermarket staff to move them elsewhere.
The defibrillator was installed by Transport for Wales at Neston Train Station in September as part of their rollout of life-saving defibrillators at stations across the Wales and Borders rail network.
The work was the company's latest phase of plans to install over 200 defibrillators at stations and in communities throughout Wales and the borders, which began in February 2022.
Next to where the defibrillator was installed there is a cycle hut which many Aldi customers are mistaking for a place to leave their shopping trolleys.
Dozens of trollies are being left every day by customers under and next to the cycle hut, leaving the defibrillator completely obstructed and unable to reach quickly if needed.
A resident posted the following on social media: "Did you know that Transport For Wales have installed a defibrillator at Neston Train Station?
"It’s located on the wall below platform one. Next to the defibrillator is a covered cycle hut.
"This hut is for cycles only, not shopping trolleys.
"Every day trolleys are blocking the access to the defib.
"It’s there to potentially save a life, and with things blocking it, that could cost time.
"So maybe think twice when you can’t be arsed to put the trolly back from where you got it."
A Transport for Wales spokesperson said: "At TfW we’re investing in installing defibrillators across our whole network and we’re doing this to help save lives.
"We aim to make them accessible and easy to see for the public on our property."
Aldi have confirmed to the Globe that they have contacted Neston train station and a sign has been put up in the bike park that explains that customers must not leave trolleys there.
