A JUNIOR football club is celebrating two achievements over the last few months in only its second season.

Broughton United was created back in July last year following the merger of Broughton Super Saints FC and Broughton Park FC.

Since the formation of the new club, the ability to offer junior football to children in and around the Broughton area has grown significantly. The club now has over 300 children playing football, which includes 60 girls in its thriving Girls section. The club’s boys’ teams play in the Flintshire Junior League and the Girls in the Northeast Wales FA Girls League.

On top of this, the club has presented opportunities to get girls playing football by becoming an official FAW Girls Huddle provider.

Chester and District Standard:

The club has 60 coaches and helpers and a committee who work hard behind the scenes to make things work.

The club is backed by a number of sponsors who have supported the club and individual age groups, this support has been pivotal to what the club has achieved.

The club was rewarded for its efforts by winning the FAW Northeast Wales Grassroots Community Club of the Year back in August and was one of the runners up in the National vote.

Last week the club learned that it had achieved a Gold Accreditation status from the FAW, the highest the club can attain at this moment in time. The Accreditation process amongst other factors takes into account the level of coaching, governance and structure of the club.

The club was delighted to have achieved this and shows the progress made in such a short space of time. Going forward the club has plans to expand further both on the formation of new age group teams but also in expanding the facilities it has on offer.

Chester and District Standard:

Adam Lee, club chairman, said: "We have had an incredible 18 months since we merged clubs, we keep going from strength-to-strength winning Community Club of the Year and we are now being recognised for it by the FAW in gaining gold accreditation status, an unbelievable feat considering we are in our infancy.

"This is down to all the hard work by the committee, coaches, parents and the hundreds and hundreds of boys and girls at the club, a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way. We are not going to stop now and be content with where we are, this club sits at the heart of the community in Broughton, and we will always strive to improve.

"Our next steps are to get men’s and women’s teams up and running but we need better facilities and pitches in and around the village to continue and allow this to happen."
