TALENTED singers from a Cheshire primary school were at Cheshire Farm Ice Cream recently, as part of a music composing workshop organised by Chester-based arts organisation AmaSing.

May Wood and Olivia Binns, who are part of Clutton C of E Primary School’s choir, joined children from 26 local primary schools to help compose a new song for Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.

The children worked alongside James Dee, one of AmaSing’s professional composers, and staff from Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.

Workshop activities included teaching the children how to warm up their voices through songs and rhymes, and supporting the children to write lyrics for the song. The finale of the day was a performance of the finished piece by all of the children.

The song created during the workshop will be professionally produced, recorded and sung by a choir of children from each of the 26 Cheshire primary schools involved.

Rachael Borman, director and founder of AmaSing, said: “The workshop was a really magical day with all the children coming together to be creative.

"It has been the first time we have brought lots of Cheshire schools together in a workshop to create music since the pandemic, so it has been really special to be able to do that again. What made it even more amazing was being able to do it at the wonderful Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.

“The children were amazing ambassadors for their schools and behaved brilliantly. The day was full of creativity, fun and of course delicious ice cream.

"We are incredibly excited to hear the end result and are very grateful to Cheshire Farm Ice Cream for partnering with us and making this opportunity available to lots of Cheshire Schools, supporting young people’s mental health through arts and music."

Naomi Baines leads music at Clutton Primary School and said it was a day to remember: “Performing is a key element of the music curriculum at Clutton, with a variety of exciting opportunities to enhance children’s learning, such as the brass lessons introduced in 2022.

"When our school was given the opportunity to participate in an AmaSing workshop at Cheshire Farm Ice Cream, to compose and perform a new song, we jumped at it. Having the chance to sing within a choir made up of 27 primary schools gave the children involved a fabulous opportunity to develop their vocal skills.

“In between activities, the children had fun in the play area, delighted in a shower of bubbles from the ice cream tree and met the High Sheriff of Cheshire who came to listen to the performance. The girls behaved impeccably and were great ambassadors for the school. It was certainly a day to remember.”

High Sheriff of Chester Jeannie France-Hayhurst said: “I had such fun that day. The children were astonishingly quick to pick up the music and dance moves, and were a sheer joy to watch.

"They were all so polite and well-behaved, a credit to the school and their parents. AmaSing and the team achieved the most wonderful results and I’m looking forward to hearing the completed Cheshire Farm Ice Cream song. The entire cast were paid in ice cream!”
