Duke of Gloucester pays visit to Cheshire Military Museum

Personnel from the museum and its Trustees were on hand to guide His Royal Highness through the displays, exhibits and work of the museum in education with its links to local schools and colleges, in archives and restoration and in providing an important hub for veterans, serving and future military personnel.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on July 8 the Cheshire Military Museum offered its congratulations to HRH as the museum celebrates its own golden anniversary this year.

Colonel Martyn Forgrave OBE, Chairman of the Trustees at the Cheshire Military Museum said; “We were exceptionally pleased to welcome The Duke of Gloucester to the Cheshire Military Museum.

“The county of Cheshire and the city of Chester have a long and distinguished military history dating back to Roman times. For over 300 years, the region has punched above its weight in service to the Royal Navy, British Army and latterly the Royal Air Force; a loyal partnership.”

He added: “Chester Castle is the home of the Cheshire Military Museum which tells the story of the Cheshire Regiment, part of the Mercian Regiment since 2007, C (CY) Sqn (formerly The Cheshire Yeomanry) of The Queen’s Own Yeomanry and more latterly the other services.

"It is also a hub for veterans many of whom volunteer their services and is co-located with a detachment of the Army Cadet Force which is part of the North West Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association.”
