SHOCKING pictures show the devastation caused after a firework was thrown at the window of a Wirral flat.

At about 6.50pm on Sunday (October 30), police and firefighters were called to reports of a firework being thrown at a property on Pasture Road by a group of teenagers, resulting in a fire to the flat above a shop.

The suspects ran off towards the roundabout on Moreton Cross before police had arrived.

There were no reported injuries, and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.

Pictures sent to the Globe by a friend of the flat's occupier show the damage caused by the blaze.

A Facebook post read: "This wasn’t targeted at the people who live there, and wasn't just kids messing on mischief night; fireworks had been being aimed towards the flats continuously for days before this.

"On Sunday, one broke through the living room window of one of the flats and hit the girl who lives there in the neck as she was on the couch before exploding and causing a fire which spread to the front of the flat too.

"The walls of the flat were previously white. Luckily (and shockingly) she isn’t seriously injured, but thanks to this she’s lost her home and has had to experience something that’s enough to traumatise anyone."

Chester and District Standard:

Detective Inspector Ruth Tickle said: "Thankfully no one was injured during this incident but there was significant damage to the entire property which will be hard to replace.

"The incident was extremely distressing for the victim involved and we are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry including CCTV in the local area.

Chester and District Standard:

"I would ask anyone who was on Pasture Road yesterday evening who saw anything suspicious or has any information which could assist the investigation to please come forward.

"Any information you have could be vital to our ongoing investigation."
