Flintshire: Tribute to Morgan Probyn after tragic sudden death

Morgan Probyn, who played American football for the Chester Romans, grew up in Mynydd Isa and was living in Flint with his long-term partner and "soulmate", Elin.

His family said he had a "lust for life that was second to none".

He had been feeling unwell since the Covid pandemic, but his family and friends remain without answers after his sudden death on October 11.

Morgan was found dead at home, the morning after he'd gone to bed due to feeling unwell. CPR was conducted by family members and later by paramedics, but tragically he couldn't be saved. 

A coronial investigation is underway, and the family faces a 20-week wait to find out further answers as to what happened.

Morgan was the youngest of four children to loving mum, Tracie.

Long-term family friend, Joanne Lloyd, says that the family and the local community in Mynydd Isa have been left heartbroken by Morgan's passing. 

Joanne said: "He had been feeling unwell for a lengthy period of time, but not for one second did anyone even begin to expect this.

"It was a complete and utter shock for everyone, no one saw it coming. He went from feeling sick to losing his life and there are just no words to describe the magnitude of his loss. We are just hoping and praying for some answers to at least provide some closure." 

Paying a touching tribute to Morgan, Joanne said: "He was a one-of-a-kind and would light up any room. He was so energetic and full of fun, it was like he was excited all the time and was just so lovely to be around. He was such a cheeky chappy as well, he had a wonderful sense of humour and would make people laugh wherever he went.

"Morgan loved everybody and he expressed that love all the time - some people can be a bit guarded with their feelings but Morgan had no problem with telling people he loved them. He adored American football and played for the Romans. That was his main passion but he also loved travelling - he went to so many places with his mum and his siblings and his girlfriend, Elin, as well - they had so many plans together. She was so much more than just his girlfriend, she was his soulmate."

Morgan had worked for a high level American-based recruitment company, and had planned to move to Texas to work. Sadly, he lost his job due to the impact of the Covid pandemic. 

Joanne said: "Morgan was determined that he was going to be a millionaire. It was go big or go home with Morgan, everything was big, everything was energetic, he was so enthusiastic and everyone who knew him had no doubt that he would achieve anything he set his mind on."

"Because there was such an outpouring of love in the community after he passed, his mum Tracie wanted everyone to be part of something", Joanne said. 

"There were so many broken people and they all wanted to do something, so we thought if everyone contributed towards Morgan's headstone then they would all feel a part of the healing process and that's what the fundraiser is for."

Morgan's American football team, the Chester and Flintshire Romans, posted on Facebook saying: "We're devastated to hear of the passing of Morgan Probyn. Morgan played for the Romans for several years and made a lasting impression amongst all those around him. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Once a Roman, always a Roman."

Malpas FC, who Morgan's mum, Tracie, photographs for, wore black armbands and held a minute's silence at their latest match in memory of Morgan.
