A MAN, who has lived in Heswall for 40 years, has released a book about the climate crisis.

Peter Ford Mason was born in County Durham, and eventually moved to Wirral, where he worked as a chartered resident civil engineer.

In September, Peter released his fourth book, titled Time's Running Out On The Sands Of Dee.

Speaking to the Globe, Peter said: “The book started as a history of the Dee Estuary, from Roman times. It contains a historical journey through the industrial revolution.

“I wanted to let the people in Wirral know about such an important factor which had a major effect on the shipping to and from Chester, and the need for subsidiary ports along the west coastline of the Wirral peninsula.”

The book also discusses the importance of the trade, political issues, and the climate crisis.

Peter added: “The dramatic effect of Climate Change has had an important impact on the theme of my book.

“As a Chartered civil engineer, I supervised in Britain the construction of canals, river and sea defences and reservoirs.

“I became aware of the vulnerability of many areas to flooding, but in recent years it has become clear that Climate Change has increased the likelihood for disastrous flooding especially in coastal areas.”

Peter wants to educate members of the public about fossil fuels, emissions and flooding.

During his research, Peter also found a close link between Neston and his home in the North-East.

He added: “Wirral has been my home for a long time.

“I didn’t realise the close connection between the Neston coal mine, which was the main industrial point in Wirral 200 years ago, and Country Durham.

“The Neston coal mine was set up by mining engineers from County Durham.”
