IT'S easy to forget in the modern world of online shopping, what a heady delight our high streets were.

They were the destination for back to school supplies, a new outfit, gifts and pretty much anything you could think of.

These photos from the Chester Standard archives show just what a variety was on offer. And this was all under one roof.

At the Co-op on Foregate Street, pictured here in 1966, you could buy hats, rugs, TVs, lamps, shoes and more.

Like many big names of the high street, the Co-op as it was, is no longer there, the building home to Cotswold Outdoor today.

Our high streets are constantly changing, and many shops that are long gone are missed to this day.

What were your favourite shops growing up or what shops do you miss? Woolworths, Chelsea Girl, C&A, Virgin Megastore, Wimpy? Or maybe there's an independent business that you have fond memories of.

Perhaps the nightlife of your youth is what you miss - Brannigans topped the office chat at Standard HQ.

Take us on a trip down memory lane and let us know what shops you miss. You can let us know direct here or email claire.pierce@newsquest.co.uk
