A COURT summons is to be delivered to an encampment of Travellers at an Ellesmere Port park.

The group of Travellers had arrived at Wolverham Park on August 2.

Cheshire West and Chester Council said the group is on council-owned land and it consists of seven caravans. A rubbish collection has been arranged.

A hearing is scheduled at Chester Magistrates Court for Tuesday, September 6, if the group of Travellers have not moved on by then.

If the group remains in place at that encampment, it is likely the court will grant the council more enforcement powers to move the group on.

Separately, a Travellers group of 10 caravans, which had arrived at the Wrexham Road Park and Ride site on the outskirts of Chester on August 17, have moved on, with the council arranging a clean-up of the site and collecting portable toilets.

However, a Travellers group of 10 caravans has since arrived at the Sealand Road Park and Ride site on September 1.

That group has been served with a notice ordering them to leave the site, or they could face court action.

Another group of Travellers, consisting of three caravans, had arrived at the site of the Tesco store in Helsby in September 1. Since then, two of the caravans are understood to have moved to a site at the Community Sports Club in Helsby.

The council is to contact the landowners to offer advice and support.
