A MAN has been jailed after stalking a woman on social media for several weeks.

Jamie McFee, of Brimstone Road in Winsford, had been subject to a suspended sentence order for fleeing the scene of a crash in Pickmere at the time.

The 38-year-old had initially denied stalking the woman online but changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on July 14.

He was back at the same court on Monday, August 15, where he was jailed for a total of 19 weeks.

The court heard how McFee made excessive contact with the woman via multiple social media sources which the court heard he ought to have known amounted to harassment.

All contact between him and the victim took place over a seven-week period between December 4, 2021, and January 22 of this year.

Taking his guilty plea into account, magistrates made the decision to jail McFee due to his ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’.

When he committed the stalking offence, McFee had also been the subject of a suspended prison sentence in relation to a crash in Pickmere on April 17, 2021.

He had been behind the wheel of a Lexus when it crashed into a Peugeot 2008 on Flittogate Lane resulting in damage being caused to the other car.

McFee fled the scene without leaving his name and address details and failed to report the accident to the police. When he was finally arrested later that day, he also refused to provide officers with a sample of his breath to determine if he had committed any other offence.

Magistrates activated that 12-week sentence with immediate effect, meaning McFee will serve a total of 19 weeks in custody.

He must also pay prosecution costs of £100 and a £128 surcharge which will help fund victim services.

Magistrates also made him the subject of a two-year restraining order.
