A CHESTER shoplifter who refused to come into the magistrates courtroom and was abusive to his own defence representative has been jailed.
Peter Woosey, 32, of Brook Street, had indicated to custody staff he was going to plead guilty to stealing a £149 electric shaver from Superdrug in the city centre, in an offence which happened on July 16.
But at Chester Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 4, Woosey was abusive to the court's duty solicitor and refused to come into the courtroom.
As a result, the case proceeded in his absence.
The court heard Woosey was on a post-sentence supervision order, and there had been poor compliance with that.
The defendant was jailed for 42 days. No compensation or court costs were awarded due to the immediate custodial sentence.
