A CASULTY who was trapped after five vehicles were involved a collision in Cheshire West has been airlifted to hospital

Fire engines from Northwich and Middlewich, as well as ambulance crews and an air ambulance, were called to Sandy Lane, Weaverham, shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, August 3).

The collision involved several vehicles and occured at the junction of Sandy Lane and Warrington Road.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Five walking wounded are being cared for by ambulance and air ambulance staff.

“Firefighters have removed the roof of one vehicle in which a casualty is medically and physically trapped to enable an extrication.

“This incident will be updated when more information is available.”

An update at 5.25pm confirmed the casualty had been extricated from the vehicle and was being cared for while firefighters and police made the vehicle safe.

At 5.40, the fire service added: "The casualty removed from the car has been taken to hospital by air ambulance.

"Fire crews are now making up their equipment and will shortly be leaving the scene.

"The incident has been handed over to police."
