A GROUP of young people in Ellesmere Port have come together to raise money for a local mental health charity.

NCS Ellesmere Port is a nationwide citizen service, created to help grow independence and confidence in people.

The group is made up of young people, aged 15–17-years-old.

During the fundraiser, one week was spent in residential, where the group learn teamwork skills, and the second week was an action project where they raised money for the mental health charity, Chapter.

Throughout the fundraising week, the group hosted a range of events to raise money for the charity.

The events included a head shave on the Wednesday, bake sale and car wash on Thursday and a 20km walk from Ellesmere Port to Chester on Friday.

Overall, the group raised over £400 at the bake sale and car wash, and over £250 during the 20km walk.

Benjamin Churton, 16, one of the members of NCS Ellesmere Port, said: “We have really enjoyed having the opportunity to work together and raise so much money for a charity.

“Mental health effects a lot of people and raising money means a lot to all of us.”

Jolene Weaver, interim CEO of Chapter, said: “Chapter is delighted to recognise the amazing efforts that the NCS team made to support local people affected by mental ill health. The team have gone above and beyond to raise in excess of £1000 to ensure that we can continue to provide support to those in need.

“It is inspiring to see the difference that young people are making to our community’s mental health, as a small local charity we rely on the help of people like Ben and the team and we really appreciate their support of our mission.
