A SALES consultant from Chester is getting ready to travel to Estonia next month to compete in a gruelling Ironman challenge.

Greg Campbell, a senior sales consultant at Redrow North West, will take part in the event on August 6, during which he will have to swim 3.8km, cycle 180km and run 42.2km. Greg will be raising money for Claire House Children's Hospice.

The 27-year-old said: "This is my first Ironman event. After stopping playing competitive football I needed a new challenge.

"Training is tiring and takes up a lot of my free time. I am trying to hit around 14 hours per week; cycling around eight hours a week, running around four hours and swimming for two hours.

"Unfortunately, I ruptured my ear drum on holiday, which has meant I am unable to train in the pool or lake until a couple of weeks before the event."

Chester and District Standard: Redrow have helped with Greg's preparation.Redrow have helped with Greg's preparation.

Greg has worked for Redrow for the past four years, joining the housebuilder’s graduate programme straight from university. He is now a senior sales consultant based at Redrow’s Kings Moat Garden Village development, in Chester. The developer has also helped Greg with his preparation for the Ironman.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to Redrow for their support and for paying my race entry.

"Triathlons can be a very expensive sport and, in total, with equipment, training, entry fees, flights, accommodation, I will have spent well into the thousands, so I cannot thank Redrow enough for helping me with my race entry fee.

"It is a great company, and an honour to work for and represent them."

Sarah Weaver, marketing manager at Redrow NW, said: "We are very proud that Greg has decided to support our divisional charity of the year Claire House and we wish him the very best for this mammoth challenge.

"Greg is very dedicated in the workplace so I know he will be putting his all into training."
