THREE fire engines and relief crews battled a blaze inside a disused building in Ellesmere Port.

The incident took place in Mill Lane at about 6.30pm on Thursday, July 21.

Two fire engines from Chester and one fire engine from Powey Lane, plus overnight relief crews attended.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters attended reports of a fire inside a disused building in Mill Lane, Ellesmere Port.

"The crews found the building well alight with the fire breaching the roof, leading to a partial collapse of the building.

"Firefighters used four main jets and two hose reels to surround and contain the fire. Utility providers were requested to attend the scene to isolate power supplies to the premises.

"Once the fire was extinguished, crews remained on scene to damp down and check for any hotspots using thermal imaging cameras.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway in conjunction with Cheshire Police."
