AN ELLESMERE Port site manager for Anwyl Homes has picked up his fifth quality award in five years following work on The Oaks at Rossbank.

Ian Palmer scooped the NHBC Pride in the Job Award and has been managing the development for the housing company for the past year and a half. It is the second honour he has received in his time there.

The 34-year-old from Birkenhead said that it had been a "manic year" and there had been "tough competition" for the award, which he went on to credit to everyone who had worked with him at The Oaks.

Ian said: "Each time I win a ‘Quality’ award it just gets better and better. You think that because you won it last year, you don’t need the recognition again, but I put so much into building high quality homes in Ellesmere Port so to get the continued credit just spurs me on."

The Pride in the Job Awards are the most highly regarded competition for site managers in the house building industry. Judging for the awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.

Ian’s passion for working in construction stems from family members, including his dad, also being in the industry.

"My dad is an assistant site manager for Anwyl now and works on site with me at The Oaks. He’s more of a mate than a father and it’s good to have someone with his construction background working with me. He offers me advice, and I him."

Ian’s focus at The Oaks has been to not only produce high quality homes but to continue raising the standards of build.

"Handing over a completed home to buyers is why I do it. To see their faces knowing I was part of the process of building their dream home is a great feeling. Of course, I can’t take all the credit, I have a great team of subcontractors on site and without them this award wouldn’t be possible."

This latest award will be added to a Seal of Excellence, achieved in his second year with Anwyl, and a regional award for the whole of Wales. Ian is hoping that he will be similarly successful in the North West category and will find out in autumn if he has secured a second Seal of Excellence.

Phil Dolan, managing director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said: "The standard of construction of our new homes has never been higher. The Oaks is Ian’s second site that he’s managed. He is an asset to the company and is well respected by his team."

Located off Rossbank Road, The Oaks at Rossbank will eventually feature 130 new homes for private sale as well as a new multi-use games area, football pitch and areas of green open space for residents to enjoy.
