THE police helicopter and armed officers were deployed in Cheshire following a road rage incident on Monday afternoon.

Cheshire Police was notified of the incident at around 5.40pm on Woolston Grange Avenue, Woolston, with the perpetrator allegedly threatening people with a knife.

The caller reported that their vehicle was being attacked by a man, who is then said to have fled the scene.

Teams located and arrested a man hidden in a garden, and he is alleged to have also assaulted two police officers.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 5.40 pm on Monday 11 July police were called to reports of a road rage incident on Woolston Grange Avenue, Warrington.

“The caller reported that their vehicle was being attacked by a man, possibly armed with a knife.

“Local officers, supported by the police helicopter and firearms unit, were deployed to the scene and, following a search of the area, a 34-year-old-man was located hidden in a garden.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of affray, driving without due care and attention, assaulting an emergency services worker, drug driving and possession with intent to supply class A drugs, he is currently in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries.”

The force’s Warrington Police team added: “Great teamwork from B Block, the Roads and Crime Unit and the public.

“A male was arrested, after he failed to stop for officers. He was arrested for failing to stop, dangerous driving and drug driving. The male also assaulted two officers.

“This was following a road rage incident where he threatened people with a knife. A knife, drugs and cash were all seized, and he will be dealt with for all offences overnight.

“Offenders who travel into Cheshire to commit crime will be put before the courts. Thanks to all members of the public who assisted.”
