RSPCA Wirral have saved a kitten found behind a washing machine in Leasowe.

THE two-week-old orphan was found behind a washing machine in an outhouse on Twickenham Drive, Leasowe.

On Sunday, a member of the public reported that they had found Ellie to the RSPCA. When they arrived; Ellie was in a perfect plump condition.

Kay Hawthorn, the animal centre manager at RPSCA Wirral, said: “I was concerned that mum was in the process of either moving them to or from there so didn't want to rush in.”

“We asked the finder to return the kitten back to where she had found her and keep a close eye on her. If there was no sign of mum by 3pm she was to return kitten to us and we would take her in, as she wouldn't be able to go on with no food for any length of time and it had already been good while.”

Ellie was returned to the RSPCA as there had been no sign of her mum and she was making a lot of noise and wanting to be fed.

Kay is now taking care of Ellie at her home until she is old enough to be rehomed.

She said: “Ellie is possibly the loudest kitten I have ever heard. It must be quite traumatic to suddenly find yourself all alone in a strange place being so tiny. She weighed only 220g on entry.

Chester and District Standard:

“Ellie has really settled down now after a day or two and no longer shouts. She is just beginning to play and is being fed every four hours around the clock. She is feeding well, and loves being held and cuddled and is now purring when she is having a fuss.

“It's still a mystery how she ended up behind the washing machine. All that matters is that she is safe and being cared for until she is old enough to be rehomed.”
