A MUM in Ellesmere Port is fighting for more safety measures to be put in place on the road outside her children's primary school.

Katrina Falconer, 37, was dropping her child at Wolverham Primary School on Monday when she noticed that many parents were parking on the yellow zig zag lines outside the school gate.

She said: “Within the space of ten minutes six different parents dropped their kids off on the double lines because they didn’t want to get wet from the rain.”

“It’s really starting to get on my nerves. It’s infuriating.”

Katrina is currently involved in finalising a PTA (Parent Teach Association) at the primary school to have better communication between teachers and parents.

She said: “We have PSCOs come down but the trouble with that is when we have them come down, they can only do it for a short while and then everything goes back to how it was again.

“So, I want more of a permanent reminder for parents.”

After posting on social media, Katrina has received a quote of £270 from company Mersey Prints to produce two banners and six signs on A2 boards with poles to put up outside the school.

Wolverham ward councillor Michael Edwardson has spoken with the school's headteacher, Jenni Ogden, and campaigner Katrina Falconer with a view to trying to find a solution to the problem.

He said: “It is a difficult issue because there is simply not enough parking space outside the school but we are working hard to achieve some improvements in due course.”

Cllr Edwardson is now hoping to be able to fund from his Cheshire West and Chester Council member’s budget, the purchase of the banners and signs urging parents to park sensibly when they drop off and pick up their children from school.

Katrina told the Globe: “This is something that should be at all primary schools. Even if it’s just putting cones out.

“I understand parents need to get to work, but every child is equally important to theirs.”

Wolverham Primary School were contacted for a comment but had not responded at the time of publication.
