The CHESTER ZOO 10k run took place on Sunday attracting almost 2000 runners taking part in the event.

The race began surrounded by rhino’s, giraffes, and elephants in the heart of the zoo. The course continued throughout the zoo before heading into the surrounding closed roads and lanes before finishing up back in the zoo.

The run organised by RunThrough events proved to be a tremendous success and saw runners of all ages and abilities take part.

Ben Green, one of the founders of RunThrough said: “We were so happy to have been able to return for a second year to Chester Zoo for our 10K race amongst the animals.

“It is such a fun and unusual setting to run in and with almost 2000 runners joining us each time, we know our RunThrough running community feels the same.

We’ve also been hugely proud to continue to support Chester Zoo in its inspirational conservation work that continues to benefit animals all over the world.”

Lucy Russell, operations manager said: “"The Chester Zoo 10k on July 3rd was a perfect day for a race - we had ideal racing weather conditions, and the excitement from all our runners as they arrived and lined up was incredible to see and experience.”

“We had people of all ages, abilities and walks of life running with us, and excitingly Jonny Mellor (the 2022 Manchester Marathon winner) who set a course record for the event of 29min 35 seconds.”

“It was great seeing everyone in the zoo afterwards with their well-earned medal, enjoying the zoo with their friends and family who came to support them. We'd like to thank Chester Zoo for hosting us and we can't wait for the next event on Sunday 30th October"
