AN ACCESS route onto a popular trail has been blocked by the council due to a health and safety issue.

Residents in Neston have recently been questioning why the access point for walkers on the Wirral Way has been blocked off.

The ‘Wirral Way’ trail is popular among locals and is great for hiking, trail running, and walking.

While travelling along the trail you can enjoy the scenic paths see all kinds of wildlife.

However, it is advised to take care on the rougher parts of the route as well as the road sections and crossings.

After a discussion about the blocked access point on social media, locals expressed their opinions.

Mike Cross added: “The steps are in very poor state and will take time and money to fix so blocking them off is much cheaper.”

Ralph Eyre-Walker wrote: “We walk that way regularly. There is better access the other side of the bridge. It was blocked off a while back after all the storms.”

Chester and District Standard:

Cheshire West and Cheshire Council made the following statement concerning the blocked access point:

“The steps have been closed by the Council's Greenspaces team as they are in a poor condition and there are safety concerns due to missing and uneven kerbs.

“A safe access route is available on a sloped section of the path up to the Wirral Way, on the opposite side leading off the Cuckoo Lane, Bridleway.”
