A MAN has been jailed after drunkenly getting behind the wheel of a car he had taken without consent.

Kenneth Russell, of Nixon Drive was stopped by police in the early hours of Saturday (June 18) on London Road in Davenham.

Not only was the 38-year-old more than twice over the legal limit, but officers also discovered he was a disqualified driver.

Russell appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday, June 20, where he was jailed for three months.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "At 1.43am on Saturday, June 18, officers stopped a black Ford Focus on London Road, Davenham, Northwich.

"The driver of the car, a 38-year-old man from Winsford, was arrested at the scene after failing a roadside breath test.

"Kenneth Russell of Nixon Drive, Winsford was subsequently charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and taking a vehicle without consent."

Russell's roadside breath test gave a reading of 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - with the limit being 35mg/100ml.

Magistrates jailed Russell for the offence due to him having previous convictions of a similar nature.

He was also handed an additional driving ban of three years.

There was no separate penalty for driving with no insurance, but he must also pay £85 in court costs and £154 surcharge to help fund victim services.
