A PLANTER has been removed by the council after being hit by a vehicle.

Two other planters were removed from the same location in Neston at the end of last month, following a car incident which left them damaged.

After the incident, Cheshire West and Chester Council confirmed that the one planter which remained undamaged would remain in the layby to add colour and greenery to that area of the town.

However, the planter is being removed today after also being hit by a vehicle.

The three planters were originally introduced as part of the 'Streets Alive' project to support social distancing during the pandemic.

The council worked with local businesses to put in place measures to help residents maintain social distancing whilst outdoors.

A spokesman for CWaC said: “The plants will go to Neston library for their sensory garden.

“A decision will be made after talking with businesses and the Town Council if the planter will be replaced.”

Neston residents have voiced their opinions online.

Sean Eden said: “The others got taken out. Obviously, they were not a good idea to begin with. We couldn’t keep one for it to happen again. They had to go.”

Barrie Formston wrote: “None of them should be there, the planters, the concrete blocks, none of them. It’s dangerous.”

Sue Bishop added: “Maybe it would be better to have lovely hanging baskets around the village or put the box type on pavements where there is room.”
