POLICE are appealing for information after a man was found dead following a car fire in Ellesmere Port.

At around 12.30am on Friday, June 3, emergency services were called to reports of a car fire at Stanney Woods car park, on Strawberry Way West.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and sadly the body of a man was found inside the vehicle.

Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place. Enquiries in relation to the cause of the fire remain ongoing and at this stage the death is being treated as unexplained.

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr said: “At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what took place or saw anything suspicious or unusual in the area to get in touch.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam or video footage which may aid our investigation.”
