A MAN has been arrested following an incident on the M53 motorway.

At around 11:50am on Tuesday, May 24 police were called following reports of a man close to the carriageway of the M53.

Ambulances were also in attendance after receiving reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attended the scene and a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of affray and causing a public nuisance.

He is currently in custody.

As a result of the incident, the motorway was closed in both directions at Junction Three near Woodchurch.

Traffic was diverted using the entry and exit slip roads near Junction Three while officers resolved the issue.

The motorway reopened at around 12:30pm where there were two miles of congestion either way.
