AIR cadets in Northwich are gearing up for a 24-hour charity challenge to help local people struggling to make ends meet.

This weekend, 146 (Northwich) Squadron Air Cadets will be taking on a drill marathon from midday today until the same time tomorrow at their Darwin Street building.

Each year the youngsters pick a cause to support and this year they have chosen the Mid Cheshire Foodbank.

The group completed a similar event in 2018, raising £1,600 in the process, and the cadets are now determined to smash that target.

RAF Air Cadets Warrant Officer Abi Hensby, at 146 Northwich, said: The cadets have chosen Mid Cheshire Foodbank as their charity of the year as it is local to them and they feel would benefit from fundraising support following the pandemic.

"They will be doing a 24-hour drill marathon, which means between 12pm to 12pm over the weekend, there will always be cadets doing drill, marching and participating in our core Air Cadet activity.

"The money raised from this event will be split equally between our Squadron funds to develop our young adults through an enriched programme and Mid Cheshire Foodbank.

"After a very difficult few years where face to face activities have been affected for our cadets, they are back to doing what they love and we have 66 cadets so far dedicating some time to this event."
