CHESTER landscaper Nick Boddy and roofer Paul Reynolds have embarked on a 1,000-mile journey from Boughton to take valuable donations to the border of Ukraine.
The pair, who are working with a Ukrainian aid charity, have been overwhelmed with the generosity of local people, friends and family supporting the mission.
Speaking before the journey, Nick said: “Paul and I just couldn’t stand by watching what was happening in the Ukraine. It’s simply heart-breaking.
"We both work for ourselves so we decided that we could take the time using the bank holiday weekend to make the journey. We’re going over to Rotterdam on the ferry, through Holland and Germany and then over to our final destination in Slubise, Poland, where we’ll meet the charity we’ve been co-ordinating with.
“We’ve managed to completely fill a van with a range of items that the refugees need. People have been simply amazing supporting us.
"The charity needed everything from nappies to torches, clothes to tinned foods and our prayers have been answered. We couldn't believe how generous everyone has been.
"The Peacock Pub in Boughton allowed us to use them as a drop-off centre, and we even had help from Cestrian Signs and AutoElec to get the branding completed on the van and sort out the electrics!”
Nick and Paul also launched a Just Giving Page to support the costs of the trip.
For anyone wishing to donate, any residual funds will be sent to the Ukrainian Aid Charity once the mammoth mission has been completed.
