LOCAL volunteers cleaned up a large amount of litter from various locations around the village.

The two Little Sutton groups (Positive Action for Little Sutton and Little Sutton Sapphires WI) have been combining forces for several years to deliver a number of projects in and around Little Sutton.

They aim to provide community engagement and improve life around the village.

Their bi-monthly litter pick, which is taking place between March and November, is attracting more volunteers each time they meet.

Using the community centre as a base, their volunteers removed a large amount of litter from locations such as the streets, car parks and alleyways.

PALS and Little Sutton Sapphires have also submitted a joint application for the regional ‘In Bloom’ competition in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category.

Founder of PALS, Steve Hewitt, said: “We’ve had another huge impact on reducing the amount of litter in the village which is fantastic. Loads of our litter-pickers were saying they’d been thanked for their efforts while they were out which is immediatley really rewarding.

“The bonus for us is that in addition to the environmental impact that it has, because of the numbers of volunteers we have turning up to help it also all counts towards our ‘In Bloom’ bid.

“If you want to get involved why not come along to the next litter pick.”

All of the litter collected is later removed by Cheshire West and Chester Council who also support the litter picks.

Chester and District Standard:

Little Sutton Sapphires president, Lisa McGowan, said: “We have always tried to make the session inviting. We have a brew and chat together once the litter picking is over. This really strengthens the community feel of the session and our local Tesco Express even donated refreshments to us.”

The next litter picking sessions are taking place on 2 July, 4 September and 12 November, beginning at 10am from the Little Sutton Community Centre.
