CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service has posted a stunning gallery of how it tackled a dramatic rescue exercise in Chester city centre on Monday.
The city centre was cordoned off on Monday evening as emergency teams, including the fire service, Cheshire Police and the North West Ambulance Service, worked together on the large-scale exercise, which focused on rescuing people from Rosies nightclub.
While the fire service was slightly down on numbers due to having to tackle a real-life fire at Helsby Hill earlier that afternoon, the operation was deemed a success as it finished ahead of schedule.
Firefighters were not told in advance the full details of what awaited them inside the nightclub, with them having to assess and locate 'casualties' (in reality actors with make-up depicting injuries) in dark, smoke-filled rooms.
Emergency teams have today (Tuesday) been back at base working on a multi-agency debrief on how to deal with the consequences of a major incident in Chester's historic city centre.
