A PENSIONER has died after a fire at a flat in Cheshire.
The blaze broke out at a property on Lyon Street, Latchford, at about 9.45pm yesterday, Tuesday.
Cheshire Police confirmed this afternoon, Wednesday, that a woman in her 70s has died as a result of the incident.
Her next of kin have been informed.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have launched an investigation into the cause.
A force spokesman said: “At 10.10pm on Tuesday, May 3, police were called to support Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service following a fire at a flat on Lyon Street, Latchford.
“Sadly, a woman died as a result of the fire.
“Formal identification has not yet taken place, but she is believed to be in her 70s.
“Her next of kin have been informed.
“Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have launched an investigation into the cause of a fire.”
Engines from Warrington, Stockton Heath and Lymm fire stations attended the incident, with units remaining at the scene until around 9am today.
Firefighters entered the property in order to contain and extinguish the blaze.
