A SPEEDING drug-driver from Ellesmere Port has been banned from the road for four years.

Adam Jones, 29, of Acre Road, Little Sutton, pleaded guilty to the charge of drug-driving when he appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, April 29.

The court heard he had previously been caught drug-driving.

Prosecuting, Emily Comer said it was 5.20pm on November 11, 2021 when Jones was seen in a BMW travelling at 60mph on the A41, the speed limit being 50mph.

An officer said he had to accelerate up to 80mph to catch up to the defendant, catching up by a roundabout. The car also had a female passenger and children.

Jones had 10 previous convictions for 17 offences.

Defending, Chris Hunt said Jones had smoked cannabis some days before and was not aware he was over the limit.

He accepted he was speeding, but it was the police officer who went up to 80mph to catch up to the defendant, and that did not mean the defendant was travelling at 80mph himself, and he had not deliberately ignored police.

Jones had also pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Magistrates imposed a four-year driving ban and a £200 fine. Jones must also pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
