FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a large fire in woodland on the outskirts of Chester.

One fire crew attended the scene in Battleaxe Road, Delamere, at about 7.30am yesterday (Saturday, April 30).

Firefighters used a hose reel water jet, high pressure lance and beaters to put out a large, deep-seated fire covering an area of more than 600 square metres in woodland and undergrowth at Delamere.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots and pitchforks used to turn over undergrowth and soil.

The crew remained at the scene for the morning working closely with forest rangers.
