A FIREFIGHTER said she was "extremely disappointed" with herself after being caught drink-driving.

Sarah Llewellyn, 33, of Rhuddlan Court, Saltney, pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity to driving while double the legal limit for alcohol.

Prosecuting at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 19, Alan Currums said it was at midnight on April 2 on Nuns Road, Chester, when Llewellyn was seen driving a Honda car with no headlights on.

Police stopped her and she gave a reading of 70 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath compared to the legal limit of 35.

The court heard Llewellyn had a previous conviction for drink-driving, but from 2008.

Defending herself, Llewellyn said she was "extremely remorseful", adding that as a firefighter, she "should definitely know better".

She added she had managed to get "a really good job" and was "extremely disappointed" with herself.

Magistrates stressed the importance of not driving while under the influence of alcohol, for the dangers presented to other road users and the potential for serious consequences.

Llewellyn was fined £415 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £42 victim surcharge.

She was banned from driving for 18 months, a ban which would be reduced by 18 weeks upon successful completion of a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
