A MAN who showed Chester city centre bar door staff he had a knife on him was then stopped shortly afterwards for drink-driving.

David Highton, 50, of Lansdown Road, Broughton, had shown the kitchen knife to staff at the door of Off the Wall just after midnight on March 27, Chester Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday, April 19.

Prosecuting, Alan Currums said Highton made no threats to the door staff and concealed the knife again, and the matter was reported to police.

CCTV camera operators followed Highton as he then got on a moped on St John Street, where police caught up to him.

Police said Highton appeared under the influence of alcohol and he produced a reading of 54 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, compared to the legal limit of 35.

The court heard Highton had no convictions as an adult, and had pleaded guilty to both possession of a bladed article and drink-driving at the earliest opportunity.

Defending, Rebecca Boswell said a pre-sentence report would be required for Highton.

Magistrates agreed and the case was adjourned until May 19.

Highton was placed on conditional bail in that he must observe a 9pm-7am curfew at his home address. He was also placed on an interim driving ban.
