A NURSE at a Wirral care home has been struck off after launching an attack on an elderly man suffering with dementia.

Lohan Monalisa Maria was working as night manager at Birch Tree Manor Care Home in Port Sunlight on October 28 2019 when she was seen slapping, punching and kicking a "vulnerable, elderly resident" by two other members of staff.

The two health care assistants reported the incident during their shift change and both wrote statements at the time. Ms Monalisa Maria was suspended by the care home with immediate effect and the police were contacted regarding the concerns raised.

One of the staff, referred to in a report issued by The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as Colleague B, said: "I witnessed Lohan slap Resident A on the side of his head on a number of occasions.

"Lohan slapped Resident A on the side of head. She slapped him with one hand and then used her other hand and she did this on at least 3 times Resident A shouted “get off, f*** off” repeatedly and was very angry. I did not witness Resident A hit Lohan.

Colleague C added: "I felt absolutely disgusted and words cannot describe how sad I felt for Resident A. Resident A wobbled when Maria slapped him and I was scared that Resident A may fall."

Both health care assistants also recalled seeing the nurse kicking the man in his buttocks to force him to his room.

The NMC found three charges against Ms Monalisa Maria, relating to the slaps, punches and kicks, proved.

Two further charges of allowing the man to sit in soiled clothing and working at the home without professional indemnity insurance were not proven.

The NMC said officers had confirmed that they had not been able to contact Ms Monalisa Maria as she had left the country.

The panel ruled her actions were fell "seriously short of the conduct and standards expected of a nurse and amounted to misconduct".

A 28-day interim order was put in place as a striking-off order cannot take effect until the end of the 28-day appeal period.

Bondcare, which runs the care home, has been approached by the Wirral Globe for a comment.
