Chester's Bridge Street telecom cabinets have been transformed into monochrome works of art as part of a new art trail.

Those who have taken a stroll through the city centre this month may have noticed the inimitable patterns and motifs of Chester based artist, Mark Wigan, which have appeared on the BT cabinets on Bridge Street.

The artist, whose work has featured in exhibitions from Japan to Madrid and on the walls of nightclubs in New York and London, first rose to prominence as a pioneer in the medium of urban art in the 1980s and 1990s.

Mr Wigan said: "Chester BID approached me to paint a mini mural on two of the cabinets as part of a new art trail.

"I call it the Iconography of Spring. [It's] inspired by nature. My black and white artwork incorporates biomorphic forms, vines seeds, flowers, figures and Tudor motifs from the buildings of Chester.

"[As] a Chester based artist, I have enjoyed painting this mini mural in my home city."

The work is the the latest of several projects the artist has undertaken across the city in recent years.

Mr Wigan is due to exhibit his paintings and prints at 12 Eastgate Street with a host of other artists at a pop-up gallery from Place for the Arts in Chester.

On 9 April, he will also be displaying his prints at the Cheshire Print Fair at Chester Cathedral.
