A BOXING legend was a knock-out success at Chester Business Club's inaugural Sporting Lunch last week.
There was a full-house attendance at Chester Racecourse when Frank Bruno, the former World Heavyweight Champion, was the star attraction at the club's event on Friday, March 4.
Skilfully interviewed on stage by Nick Owens, of Chester-based WTS Media and who is the co-author of Frank Bruno: 60 Years A Fighter, Bruno gave an account of his life in and out of the ring.
He spoke about his difficult childhood and upbringing, his battles with mental ill health, all interspersed with an amusing series of his customary ‘Frank-isms’ including ‘piece of cake off a duck's back’, ‘Some women can chat the sofa off a donkey’ and that angry men ‘say some crazy sugar’.
He received a prolonged standing ovation from the enthusiastic sell-out audience.
The event was held in support of Papyrus (Prevention of Young Suicide) and the Frank Bruno Foundation.
Fraser Crewe (BA Commercial) was the auctioneer, successfully engaging the audience to bid enthusiastically for a number of boxing memorabilia items on offer.
The Headline Sponsors were Connectus Business Solutions, with support sponsorship from Legat Owen and RSM UK and the drinks reception was sponsored by Rosebridge IFA Group.
