MOTORISTS are facing lengthy delays of more than an hour on the M6 this afternoon, Friday.

Seven miles of queuing traffic is being reported on the northbound carriageway between junction 20 for the M56 at Lymm Interchange and junction J21 for the A57 Manchester Road at Woolston.

This is due to emergency repairs of a carriageway defect on Thelwall Viaduct, with strong winds brought by Storm Eunice also causing chaos.

Two lanes were closed while the repairs are carried out, with traffic matrix signs set to 40mph, but all lanes have since reopened.

Congestion stretches back to Congleton, with National Highways urging drivers to allow extra time for journeys.
