PLANS to convert an empty Heswall hairdressers into a bar have been submitted to Wirral Council.

The Toni and Guy hair salon at 172 Telegraph Road has stood vacant for nearly two years but could become the town's latest drinking establishment if the application is approved.

According to the plans submitted by restaurateur Chris Williams, who operates neighbouring tapas bar Silk Road, the premises will operate as a cafe during the day and a bar in the evening.

A planning statement said: "We have secured the lease and have been granted a liquor licence to enable us to operate a café bar.

"We shall be serving brunch, lunch and a limited evening food menu downstairs, upstairs shall be more of a late lounge and a space we will hire out for special occasions and celebrations

"The front terrace will have loose furniture which will be brought in of an evening, the back terrace will be enclosed and have more fixed bench seating along with loose furniture."

The cafe is planning to open from 8am-midnight each day except Fridays and Saturdays when it could close at 1am.

"We have a number of suppliers in place already that service 166 Telegraph Rd and will use the same path behind the building to deliver into 172 and 170 or come through the front depending on which supplier," said the statement.

"All food will be prepared in the adjoining building of 170 and all deliveries for food will go into that site as that has the walk in fridge and kitchen area.

"We will be using a contractor to remove all waste, this will be split into bottle bins, cardboard bin, general waste and food waste. We will have a designated area away from customers and we will use the existing pathway."

Mr Williams faced opposition from local residents when he applied for a licence last year with the panel hearing complaints of fighting, shouting and people urinating in private gardens.

Mr Williams added that the new establishment would not be for younger people, but would instead cater to people who had eaten in the evening and wanted somewhere else to go for an hour or two after their meal.
