FOUR more Covid patient deaths have been recorded at the Countess of Chester Hospital Trust in the past week, latest figures have shown.

NHS data shows two Covid patients died on January 17, with further patient deaths on January 14 and January 18.

The sad news brings the total number of Covid patients to die at the hospital trust to 667 since the start of the pandemic.

However, the number of Covid patients being treated at the hospital trust looks to be gradually declining as the Omicron variant wave is subsiding.

Having reached a peak of 104 Covid patients at the hospital trust on January 13, latest available figures show that as of 8am on Tuesday, January 18, there were 87 Covid patients being treated at the hospital trust.

Of the 87, two were on mechanical ventilator beds.

At this point last year, on January 18, 2021, there were 283 Covid patients at the hospital trust, with 19 on mechanical ventilator beds. Twelve months ago, only a fraction of the population had received any Covid vaccine doses, whereas latest data shows nearly two-thirds of those in Cheshire West and Chester aged 12+ have now received three vaccine doses.

Case rates are continuing to decline, but are starting to level off. About one per cent of people in Cheshire West and Chester tested positive for Covid between January 9-15.
