A CHESTER shopping centre has raised thousands of pounds for a local cause.

Grosvenor Shopping Centre is celebrating raising over £4,200 for its Charity of the Year, Save the Family.

Throughout 2021, the shopping centre hosted a series of community-based events to raise much-needed funds and awareness for Chester-based charity Save the Family.

These included the successful Family Festive Fun Zone, bingo nights, shopper sports days, raffles with prizes courtesy of shops from within the centre and in-centre bucket collections.

Save the Family provides residential accommodation and support for families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and who have multiple and complex needs.

The charity is based on the outskirts of Chester in a multi-purpose modern facility that includes 32 self-contained residential units, a community and sports hall, training facilities including a kitchen and workshop, a children’s centre, a sensory room and gardens.

The charity aims to empower families to overcome barriers, increase their independence, grow in confidence, and reach their true potential.

In these uncertain and challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, they have seen the pressure on different sectors and the impact it has had on mental health, where many have felt isolated.

That is why the Grosvenor Shopping Centre felt raising as much as possible for Save the Family charity was a necessary cause, to assist them in their life-changing work.

Julie Webb, manager of Grosvenor Shopping Centre, said: “We are so pleased to have raised such a fantastic amount of money for Save the Family and we'd like to thank all those who have donated over the last year.”

Dee Tuttle, Save the Family PR and communications, added: “That is an absolutely amazing amount and will help our charity to provide help and access to families that need support.

"I can’t express how grateful we are on behalf of Save the Family, and the local community for showing their support!”
