Chester has ranked fifth in a list of UK cities that take the most pride in their neighbourhood.

The research by Buildworld factors in cleanliness, the quality of the city's green parks, the community interest in recycling, council expenditure on environmental and regulatory services and the number of community groups and initiatives. This then generates an overall 'pride' score for each city which is then compared with others across the country.

Only Preston, Exeter, St Albans and Durham recorded better scores. Other notable achievements for Chester included joint third place for the cleanest city, tied on exactly the same score as Lincoln.

The city ranked highest in the UK for community groups with an average of 11 groups per 10,000 residents. This includes those that gather and remove litter from local areas and those that re-develop unused areas into green spaces.

The only other nearby cities to make it into the top 34 displayed on the website, were Liverpool and Stoke-on-Trent, placed 19th and 33rd respectively. You can view the full list with a breakdown of how the survey was conducted here.
