Blackstocks fish and chip shop on Northgate Street has today announced it will be closing for good.

The family run business, owned by Gareth and Kelly Gordon, has stood in Chester town centre for almost 10 years having opened in March 2012. A note was left in the window of the shop on 33 Northgate Street thanking their loyal customers, staff and suppliers and explaining that the couple now looked forward to an enjoyable retirement.

The business had won multiple national awards for its food and some famous faces have come to sample its fish and chips. However, Covid lockdowns, rising business costs and a reduction in high street footfall had all contributed to their decision not to renew their lease.

Across social media, many local people said that it was a shame that Blackstocks would be no more, with plenty saying that their chips were the best in town.

In their note, Mr and Mrs Gordon said that it had been a "blast" to have spent 10 amazing and profitable years in their home city of Chester and that they had "enjoyed every minute".

Blackstocks has been contacted for further comment.
